Sarah Weiss, Ph.D is a Professor at the Institute for Ethnomusicology, University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG). She serves as Artistic Director of the university’s Central Javanese ensemble, Gamelan Nyai Rara Saraswati. An ethnomusicologist specializing in Southeast Asian performing cultures, gender studies, postcoloniality, and ritual, she is the author of Ritual Soundings: Women Performers and World Religions and Listening to an Earlier Java: Aesthetics, Gender, and the Music of Wayang in Central Java.
